Rare Nevers earthenware plate with contoured board with polychrome patriotic decoration of a dog and a cat facing each
other on a mound framing the symbols of the Three Orders united by a ribbon surmounting the inscription
"Pran garde au chat". This decoration symbolizes the vigilance that patriots must impose on counter-revolutionaries.
End of the eighteenth century, revolutionary era.

This enigmatic decor is one of the "jewels" of a collection. It represents the confrontation around the meeting of the Three Orders on one side of the dog on the alert symbolizing vigilance and loyalty to the new principles born of the revolution (which in another plate is represented keeping the constitution) and the cat seen under its devious aspects of feline is here the representation of the counter revolution ie the Aristocracy.
