Iran - Safavid Art - Seventeenth Century
Safavid art - refers to the artistic production of Persia (present-day Iran and part of present-day Iraq)
between 1501 and 1736, during which time the dynasty of the same name reigned over the country. Nourished by
Persian culture, Safavid art is strongly influenced by the Turkmen culture (from the origins of the dynasty), Chinese,
Ottoman and also Western. The Timurid dynasty preceded the Safavids. The Kadjar dynasty succeeded them and
reigned over Persia from 1786 to 1925.
